“Does Corporate Diversification Reduce Risk in Firms that Diversify into Product or Geographic Markets?” When you Google-search this question, you’ll find that various sources converge on an affirmative answer. You can try to dig deeper, and you find that corporate executives in multinational corporations and horizontally-diversified firms expect risk-reduction from diversifying their firms. Do some more research by searching GoogleScholar, and you’ll find that much of the academic research on corporate diversity calls for confirmation of the idea that corporate diversity reduces risk. I have worked on this research direction since 2015, and I am pleased to share a link to my study that recently appeared in Strategy Science and rigorously explains how corporate diversity is associated with corporate risk. Reduces why and where core beliefs may be misguided. I am grateful to the editor – Professor Daniel Levinthal – and to two anonymous reviewers on my submission for valuable guidance, and to the many colleagues who shared their ideas on how to improve my research project. As a former entrepreneur and a former corporate executive who transitioned into academia, I knew the importance of redeploying resources. That is why, when my Ph.D. While continuing this research at the Purdue University Krannert School of Management, and at the Wharton School and Geiss College of Business – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I felt that I had entered an exciting space that still lacks the attention of academic researchers. was able to draw . I’m so glad to see that research that assumes redeployment of resources is now coming to a close! And, I’m happy to be part of a growing team of researchers who study resource redeployment!

The promotion to associate professor with tenure at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign comes with a delightful bonus… This week, my wife Natalia Sakhartova and I received an invitation from the university provost and the university librarian in recognition of my promotion. . I recently visited the Purdue University Krannert School of Management. I had a busy trip there: I participated in a proseminar organized by Richard Macadock, presented my research project “Corporate Diversification and Risk: Portfolio Effects and Resource Redeployability,” and was the keynote speaker at the Krannert Doctoral Research Symposium.
