Adding shadows to any text is not an easy task for GIMP users. Since there is no simple solution that allows you to easily apply shadows to any text, we will explain the entire process. What’s more, if you follow them exactly, you will manage even if you are a newbie. Here’s what you need to do:

The steps mentioned above are to prepare the canvas and the text. Now, the next few steps focus on adding shadows to the text:
As you can see, the process is a bit long, but if you follow the steps, you will be able to do it successfully.
The “Drop Shadow” tool helps you with text editing, especially if you’re creating a logo or designing a poster. You can use this tool to add shadows to the borders of various objects. This feature works best with large objects and bold text headlines with straight lines, as they provide room for impressive shadows that make the object pop. The “Drop Shadow” tool isn’t a particularly complicated GIMP tool, so here’s how you can use it to add a drop shadow to any text:
In the “Drop Shadow” pop-up, you can adjust several factors to make the dropdown shadow look more professional.

The first option is to decide if you want to use a preset with subtle shading. However, if you’re going to change the shadow’s position, you’ll need to play with the offset x and y-axis to move it until you find a position you like best.
Adjusting the blur radius is another useful tool because it allows you to change the size and clarity of the shadow. A large blur radius can stretch the shadow significantly, but if you make it too small, it will be almost invisible. You can decide what kind of shape you want your drop shadow to be based on the design parameters.
Another important section in the “Drop Shadow” menu is the shadow color. GIMP allows you to choose any color and shade depending on the color palette of the object you’re shaping or the text you’re working with.
Opacity comes in handy when working with shadows, as it controls their intensity. By default, GIMP has an opacity of 60 percent. If you increase the opacity, the shadow becomes more visible, but if you set it to 30 percent or lower, it becomes significantly less visible.

When you’re done with your design, you can decide if you want to save it with a white, black, or transparent background. You can save it in a variety of file types, but a PNG file is the best choice if you’re creating a logo or a poster.
When you use the “Drop Shadow” effect in GIMP, it’s recommended to use it in two layers, as it gives you more room to get creative with shadow shape, color, and opacity. Here’s how the process works:
Since the “drop shadow” is a separate layer on your image, text or logo, you can use the “Move” tool to change its position or delete the layer and remove it from the canvas.

Tutorial: Silver And Turquoise Text (gimp 2.8)
This is a very simple question, but I’m struggling to find an answer to this: How can I put a box outline on something in GIMP? So that you can easily circle something in the image that you want to point to someone (but with a rectangle or square and not a circle). Or is there a better tool that allows easily without a lot of manual drawing if it can’t be done easily in GIMP? I use Paint for this because I can’t find the option in GIMP while on Windows, but now I can’t find anything else to do it on Ubuntu.
Bucket fill that rectangle or paste the texture if you want to use the texture for your outline.
You have the answers for Gimp, but I find Gimp a bit hard for this sort of thing. I don’t have windows so I don’t know what color it is, but I can recommend a very plain and old one
A different tool that I use more for this purpose is the Flameshot. This is very handy when you want to take a screenshot of something, then mark, annotate, blur, point to content, etc.
