Playing a single solid starting word doesn’t statistically yield as many greens or yellows. The player asks “what now? Which word to play next?”. Playing two free opening words allows you to play 10 unique letters, so you have a much higher chance of finding green and yellow at once.
It usually works, with the best combination of words getting 3 or more shades of yellow half the time, and at least one green 62% of the time.
