Do you like getting something in the mail other than a bill every month? Of course! All we do! I heard about this monthly subscription box from my friend, Angel. Angel shared this with me a few months ago, and I confess that I kept putting it off and putting it off, not wanting to buy something that I really had no idea if I would love it or not. I saw pictures of her and just kept looking. Soon the fire was lit and I was ready to buy my first month, as well as an addition for another month that we had missed. WHY DID I CONTINUE FOR SO LONG!?!?!?!?!

Letters From Afar Subscription

Every month we receive a lovely letter from our friend and pen pal Isabelle. Isabelle travels the world and she loves writing us these beautifully illustrated letters that describe some of the sights she has seen, greetings in their own language, and sometimes even the flag of that particular country will be drawn on the letter. The letter itself is written on the most recycled material. Brown paper has a vintage charm. The envelope in which they arrive is stamped “airmail”, which only adds to the charm and beauty. There are 2 stamps included and boy this brings back the good old days when I reminisce about my stamp collecting years. Children adore them and look forward to the next letter.

In my quest to give my children a living education (as Charlotte Mason called it), I have found that little details like this really and truly teach my children the geography of the world around them as well as the culture. I wish I could write that I drew my cards and we followed Isabelle, but so far (and this is our third month) I haven’t. But I will. It would also be great to use with the Charlotte Mason Material World and Hungry Planet resource. I believe that my friend Angel will even cook food related to this country, and also borrow a book about this country from the library. What can I say, this is one dedicated and wonderful mom!

So what made me start? Well, I LOVE the idea of subscription boxes! Seriously! I LOVE our family reading box we get from Buildyourlibrary.com and the two TinkerBoxes we got.

But commitment and price are always a huge factor. Somehow I have to be sure that I can devote time to this. I love the STEM related resources as well as more family unity around the new book. Please don’t confuse my thought. However, I need to make sure I have the time to be available to help my kids, especially with Tinker boxes. Mom should always be at hand, and, in the end, I have to keep her. For my kids, while the project was fun to play with after it was done, the best part was creating it. With my mailing list, I get a letter: a letter that I can read aloud, and beyond my imagination. I have plans. I have ambition. My children want to write to Isabelle. This. That’s the problem. I had to share this with all of you. Price for this, are you ready? $6 per month! (subject to change at the discretion of the owner). SIX DOLLARS! I can do it. AND THEY CAN DELIVERY OVER INTERNATIONAL!

After all was said and done, my video edited and uploaded (you can check it out at the bottom of this post), I learned about the good things this company does for others. On their website, they say they are sending “a portion of all proceeds directly to the fantastic nonprofit Pencils of Promise.” ”
