I’m not sure how folk dances and crossword puzzles ended up in the same category, but the point is clear nonetheless: Eriksson, the preeminent authority on knowledge and human ability, does not believe that crossword puzzles can be solved in a predictable, accelerated fashion.
To make things even more difficult, I decided to increase the difficulty level as much as possible: The New York Times (NYT) is known for publishing the hardest crossword puzzles, and the Saturday puzzle is set to be the hardest puzzle of the week. .
In other words, the NYT Saturday crossword is the hardest of all the crosswords. So, if I can solve Saturday’s puzzle, I should be able to solve any other crossword, from the New York Times or other sources.
One clarification: the NYT puzzle gets harder as the week progresses. The easiest puzzle is on Monday and the hardest is on Saturday. The Sunday puzzle is significantly larger (with a 21×21 grid compared to a 15×15 grid from Monday to Saturday), but has a Wednesday or Thursday difficulty level.
