Oar Words 5 Letters
Oar Words 5 Letters – When teaching phonics, it is often helpful to use a key word and picture to help students remember the sound for letter combinations. My wonderful artist created “corn” themed borders and game boards for the tai/ore/oar phonics pack and they turned out absolutely lovely! This recording pack contains 11 practical exercises to teach and practice the spelling of the /or/ sound or/or/oar. The activities are excellent for teaching small groups or independent literacy centers. Here’s a quick look at several of the features in this package.
Of course, when teaching a skill, it’s always helpful to have a vocabulary list handy. Giving your students a whiteboard and then giving them the words to write using a ore, ore or paddle is a great activity to end any session. If you just want the word list, click the link below.

The Or/ore/oar Phonics Bundle also includes an anchor chart used to demonstrate /or/ spelling patterns. You can keep this updated throughout and after teaching this skill so students can refer to it during their writing time. You can also download this chart by clicking the link below.

So now to the action… One of my favorite activities in this pack is the Climb & Slide activity. It plays just like the old Chutes and Ladders game, but only with sound. When you download this pack, you get two Climb & Slide game boards. There is little to assemble, but when you laminate, you have activity that will last for years!
This tai/oar/oar Phonics Bundle also includes two classic game boards. Just like the Climb & Slide game boards, you need to glue the templates into a file folder and laminate. Since I create quite a lot of game boards, I order plastic wrap (I added a link to the download), but using a paper clip and pencil also works well for spinning. Climb & Slide and game boards are ideal activities for independent centers.
No package would be complete without the classic Bingo game. This pack comes with five bingo cards, making it perfect for small group activities.
I really like the activity where students use phonics skills in writing. I was once told that a student has not yet mastered pronunciation until he finds that he can use it correctly in writing. That’s why I included a writing component in the three functions of this bundle. There are five different Dry Erase Phonics designs (the first set contains easier words). This workout has a self-check feature, making it great for independent practice. Students simply write ‘or’, ‘ore’ or ‘oar’ using a dry erase marker in the blank space for each word, then turn the card over and check their answer. Using an adhesive dot to attach the card to each template works perfectly and keeps each card with the corresponding template. Because the designs are laminated, they can be used over and over again.

Another activity with a writing component is the Write a Word activity. Again, the self-check feature makes it ideal for stand-alone centers. There are four Write the Word templates in this bundle. For this activity, students order word cards and then write the word under the correct column. When you are done, they will turn the answer key and check their answer. I put the cards in the bag and secured it to the model with a brass clasp and then re-attached the answer key with a sticky dot.
Game Bump! is a fun game for two students. There are five Bump boards in this bundle and instructions for playing the game are printed on the back of each game board as with each action. In this game, students take turns rolling the dice, reading the words, and trying to be the first player to get rid of all their tokens. The fun part comes when students “bounce” their opponents off the screen and lock the space with two colored tokens.
The word sorting activity is useful when introducing phonics skills in small group teaching. A writing component was added to this activity, but the whole word is written on the reverse side, so if you don’t want to let students write words, you can use the other side of the card.
Only word cards are included in word reading practice. Place them in a 1″ loose leaf ring and you can easily grab them anytime!

Five Race to the Top game boards are included in the or/oar/ore Phonics Bundle. Students need dice, chips and game boards. The first one to complete a line wins the game. Super simple, but students love it!
Another very simple and fun activity is the 4-In-A-Row game. Students play in partners who each have their own colored chips. They read the word and place their chip in the square. The first player to have four of their chips in a row wins the game.
The best part about the phonics bundles is that they are designed to fit into these 15″ x 11 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ Sterilite containers that I picked up at Walmart. Storage space in classrooms is always at a premium, and I wanted to make sure that all the functions could be to keep practically.
The Or/oar/ore Phonics Bundle can be found in the Teachers Pay Teachers online store or on the Make, Take & Teach website.
