To iron the patches, first heat the iron for 5 minutes (unless it’s a quick heat iron) on a medium (silk/wool) setting (or higher, if possible, without burning the fabric). The iron must be hot enough to melt the glue.

Use the iron to heat the spot where you are going to place the patch first, so that it is warm.

Then, position the patch where you want it to be permanently with the glue side against the fabric.

Place a top cloth on top of the patch. Press the iron firmly into the patch and hold for 10 seconds as a test. It usually takes 20-25 seconds for the glue to fully melt, but irons vary, so be careful not to burn or melt the fabric. If the glue is not completely melted or if you handle the patch while the patch is still hot, the patch may start to come out of the fabric. If this happens, run it again.

To avoid burning the polyester or patches and get a better adhesion: First, place the patch in the desired location and apply the iron to melt the glue. Then turn the material inside out and run the material against the bottom of the patch. This allows you to see areas where the glue was not fully in contact with the material, get better heat and, in general, better application. Patches should look a lot better. Also washing in delicate clothes, or hand washing and laying flat, or clothesline to dry helps.

Our patches have excellent adhesion that is superior to any other inch patch we’ve tested. Once the patch is ironed, it may not be possible to remove it without damaging the fabric.

Patches can be ironed on most fabrics. They are usually ironed on jersey sleeves, back or front. The only problem you may have is if you have a textured fabric that the glue cannot adhere to. In these cases or if you don’t want them to be permanent, you can either stitch each one a few, or use fabric glue to secure it. Patches will likely not stick to stretchy materials such as socks or headbands unless you sew them together with thread.
