It provides lines containing dotted letters for students to trace with the starting position and stroke directions plotted for each letter, number, and punctuation mark. The trace font has been carefully developed to provide an intuitive, practical introduction to writing the English alphabet.
As a kindergarten teacher, I always make worksheets for my students who are just starting to learn to write the letters of the alphabet. At first I scoured the web for a good font that I could use to teach proper calligraphy and stroke order, but I couldn’t find anything! So I ended up making my own font. And now it is available to others who need such a font.

After researching and comparing different English alphabet control methods, I put together a font with the most logical and efficient stroke commands. designed to reduce pencil lift between strokes and encourage continuous stroke sequences. It prevents young learners from developing bad writing habits, such as creating ball-and-stick letters. With this font, stroke lines flow together smoothly to guide early writers to write letters accurately and efficiently. Other kindergarten printing styles tend to encourage awkward, unnatural stroke orders and sometimes include unnecessary decorative strokes. it is simple, fluid, and logical; and presents a practical universal standard for printing the English alphabet that is easy for young learners to understand.
A starting position is indicated by a circle where the pencil should be placed at the beginning of each letter. Beginning positions are important for developing proper letter formation skills and efficiency in writing. They also help with letter differentiation. For example, young learners often confuse the letters b and d, but knowing the correct starting positions and stroke orders can help students distinguish between these misleading letters. Additionally, by learning the starting positions, students become more familiar with patterns in letter formation and letter structure across the alphabet. For example, the round letters
Stroke direction arrows make it easy for young writers to become familiar with correct stroke commands. The arrows also facilitate penmanship activities in the classroom. For example, directional arrows can be a visual aid for teachers to illustrate stroke commands. One effective method is to have students put their fingers in the air and move the strokes of a particular letter. Another great way is to have individual students come forward and move a keyboard over a flashcard or visual projection to practice the correct stroke sequence.
Conventional directional arrows encourage correct stroke sequences but often lead to unnecessary pencil lifting. For example, note how the standard directional arrows for the letter d would cause many students to inappropriately lift their pencils between stroke 1 and stroke 2. of printing which is more difficult and leads to a lower quality of calligraphy. The font uses extended stroke direction arrows to discourage students from needlessly picking up their pencils between strokes.

Because it goes the extra mile to prevent unnecessary pencil lifting, it promotes writing fluency, which promotes good penmanship and is helpful in preparing students for cursive writing. Most lowercase letters should be printed without lifting the pencil from the page between strokes. The only lowercase letters the pencil needs to pick up between strokes are f, k, t, x, and y (and, of course, i and j).
✔ Includes horizontal lines ✔ Includes starting position ✖ Without stroke arrows I’ve been making up a bunch of letter tracing worksheets to try to help my son with his handwriting and now that I’ve gotten all the way from A to Z I can share them with you all in one big post!
This free PDF file contains 52 pages of free printable letter tracing worksheets. For each letter of the alphabet there is one page for upper case and one page for lower case.
Each page has 3 lines. On the first line you can find with the help of numbers and arrows. For the second line those numbers and arrows disappear. On the last line you practice writing the letter yourself.

To get multiple uses out of one sheet you can put the sheet in a sheet protector, dry erase pouch or sheets. Then you can use dry erase markers and wipe after each use.
In addition to the free set I have created more letter tracing worksheets. I just think there are so many ways you can try to work on handwriting so I wanted to give a variety of them. All of these are available to buy as individual sets or together as part of a larger package at the Teachers Pay Store my Teacher.
I have one set that has 26 pages where you can see the broken lines without arrows. There is a similar set of 26 pages where you can trace the broken lines but there are arrows to guide you. I find the arrows to be of great help to my son at this stage of the game for us.
Another set I made features following broken lines with a green dot on each letter to tell you where to start and a guide at the top right corner of each page to remind you how to draw the letter. There are 52 pages in this set, 26 for upper case forms and 26 for lower case forms.
Tracing Letters And Numbers
My favorite set is probably the Rainbow Letter Tracing. For this set you will find the broken letters with arrows. For each line you will color the line until you make a rainbow at the end. There are 52 pages in this set, 26 for the main versions of the letters and 26 for the small versions of the letters.
These A to Z pages are pages that have all the letters on one page – one with arrows and one without.
If you like all of these you can bring them together in the Big Handwriting Package. Bundling them together is cheaper than buying them separately.
