Web Address Letters Crossword Clue

Web Address Letters Crossword Clue – On this Sunday before statewide primaries, in the depths of a pandemic, it’s time to address an ongoing complaint that has been clogging up my inbox for the past two months.

Some readers don’t like our new daily crossword puzzle that we started publishing on March 15th along with the new Sudoku Weekly. Changing puzzles (or comics) is difficult at the best of times because newspaper readers (bless them) are creatures of habit. And as such, they cherish their daily dose of Jumble, the “Peanuts” comic strip, or the crossword puzzle.

We made this change to limit costs and simplify the production of comic and puzzle pages in all our sister articles.

Crossword Puzzle Book For Adults New York Times: Large Print, Easy And Medium Puzzles For Adults

Disgruntled readers of the new puzzle, which comes to us from the Los Angeles Times, point to the joy of completing the crossword and how much they need that daily diversion in this time of crisis. The most common complaints are that the new puzzle is “too difficult,” the clues are “too obscure,” or the answers rely heavily on pop culture knowledge.

One reader said: “It used to be fun and semi-challenging – not too easy, but definitely not the frustrating lesson I see every day now. Clues can be ridiculous on 2 levels: either they’re vague or unknown (most of them anyway), or they’re so long they don’t make sense.

This puzzle comes to us from Syndicate, which describes it as “one of the funniest puzzles around” that offers “full of humor and wordplay.” So I decided to contact Los Angeles Times crossword editor Rich Norris to see if he might be able to help readers. Here is our Q&A, slightly edited for clarity.

Answer: Yes – except Sunday. The puzzles get slightly harder every day from Monday to Saturday. Monday and Tuesday are the easiest, Wednesday and Thursday are moderate, and Friday and Saturday are the most challenging.

Party Down: 100 Years Of The Crossword Puzzle

Sunday is of medium difficulty, like the mid-week puzzles – except that Sunday is a bigger puzzle and takes longer to solve.

Both the theme and the clues can help make a puzzle challenging. For the beginning of the week, the topics are fairly simple, but the clues get a little harder each day.

Answer: Wednesday’s puzzle had a common type of theme where the circled letters help the solver figure out the theme. The topic is “wood filler”. Different types of wood are spelled with the first and last letters of the answers, such as “pizza stone” which is spelled pine. Therefore, the circled letters at the beginning and end are “wood” and the rest of the letters are “filler”.

Answer: Pop culture is present in our puzzles, but on balance it makes up a relatively small percentage (10-20%) of the total puzzle. We try to spread such references in various topics and media: sports, television, movies, drama, music (classical and popular), literature, popular brands, etc.

We also make a point to include older as well as more contemporary pop culture. (For example, one puzzle I looked at recently had clues about Bart Simpson, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, Jane Mansfield, Barbra Streisand, Henrik Ibsen, and Babar Phil.)

Also, we do our best to spread these references around the puzzle so there aren’t too many clusters in one area.

Q: Do you have any strategies to share? I know when I do puzzles I (rarely) start with short words, but maybe you have something more clever. Anything you can share will help!

Answer: Starting with short words is a good strategy. Fill-in-the-blank clues can also be a good starting point, as can clues that give the first or last name of a famous person and ask solvers to fill in another name, such as (actress Alda from “M*A” *S*H “).

The Yes! Crossword: Close Readings

Another suggested solution: look at everything. If there’s a word that solvers don’t know, or if they’re stuck on an actor, singer, or writer’s name, they can use the information in the clue to look it up.

I know some solvers resist doing research while solving (I’m one of them), but that’s okay. A few years ago, I knew a woman who solved our Saturday puzzles every week. He told me how he put all his reference books on the dining room table, opened the newspaper and started solving, stopping to look up things he didn’t know or couldn’t understand. It became a learning experience and as the weeks went by, he needed his books less and less.

Today, most solvers have computers, which certainly makes the search process much faster. There are even sites dedicated specifically to helping solvers find crossword puzzle answers.

One last thought: if solvers can’t finish a puzzle, they can look up the answers the next day (or the same day online) to see what they missed. This is another way to build problem-solving skills.
