Playing a word startup doesn’t make a lot of green or yellow. It leaves a player asking “Now what? What will I do next word?”. Playing two free starting words allows you to play 10 special cards, which gives you a better chance of finding green and yellow right away.
Generally, it works: the best word results in 3 or more yellows over half the time, and at least one green 62% of the time. Contrast that with the popular card (caret), which produces 3 or more yellows only 10% of the time, and green only 46% of the time! You can find two powerful starting words that bring you closer to the solution.
