Although a popular Cuban dance, salsa is popular worldwide and there is a strong salsa culture throughout Latin America. Types Of Ballroom Dances

Rap first came to Cuba in the 1980s from Miami radio stations whose signals reached the island. These broadcasts exposed the Cuban youth to American hip-hop artists, such as Biggie Smalls and Talib Kweli. It didn’t take long for the youth to embrace this genre pairing. Cuban hip-hop has a completely different feel than American hip-hop. Elements of salsa and rumba are evident in the dance moves, and the music is rich with the sound of congas, bata drums and electric bass. Hip-hop and rap bands use their music to convey their thoughts on current events; you can’t ignore the element of politics in this new Cuban dance music.

The grand finale for this year’s challenge will be held at the Ohio Star Ball in 2022. At this finale, the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Showdance, Showcase and Theater Arts Finale competitions will take place on Thursday afternoon/evening at the Ohio Star Ball.

For 2022, the Grand Finale winners at the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, and the overall winners of the Showdance, Showcase and Theater Arts events, will be asked to create an Encore performance of their winning dances on Friday night at the Ohio Star Ball. What better way to recognize the winning Best of the Best Dancesport performances than to be featured in the Friday night events at the 2022 Ohio Star Ball.

The Best of the Best DanceSport Challenge is an annual competition between some of the best Pro/Am couples in the country who are winners at the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Showdance, Showcase and Theater Arts dance levels. The Best of the Best was originally started as a challenge to the top competitor between the Atlanta Open, Holiday Classic and Ohio Star Ball. The challenge has now expanded to 49 qualifying events held during the calendar year, including representatives from the Dancer’s Cup Tour, culminating in the Grand Finale events at the Ohio Star Ball. Each qualifying event that hosts a Best of the Best challenge offers a different category, so interested competitors can choose from multiple divisions in which to shine.

Competing in your chosen division at a participating event is the first step to qualifying. Be sure to check the details as described in the organizer’s literature. The concept of Best of the Best is to take the winners in each age division of the qualifying event and have a run-off to determine an overall winner for the competition. The overall winner from each participating competition is asked to prepare a solo presentation in the dance of their choice at the Grand Finale Challenge in Ohio. At the Grand Finale, the overall winners from each participating competition, and the representatives from the Dancer’s Cup Tour, will present their solo and compete for the coveted Best of the Best Dancesport Challenge title at the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Showdance, Showcase, and Theater Arts levels.
