You can probably guess that this puzzle was not for me in any way or form You couldn’t invent a less puzzle for me if you tried (please don’t try). One thing I would give this puzzle is, from a basicity standpoint, is that it’s a slight step up from your typical Quip puzzle, on a structural/conceptual level, due to the fuzzy single square that turns the pun. A puzzle piece instead of sitting there sadly Again Schrödinger squared off! I have to admit that this is an original thing I have to admit I enjoyed that one Let me rephrase that I could enjoy this pun, just as I “enjoy” any pun the puzzle throws at me. Maybe it’s a cry, maybe it’s beautiful The thing is, it’s a pun, and, well, if the pun is part of the theme, there will be other puns to go on. But here, the whole (eeeeennnntttttiiiiiiirrrrreeeee) puzzle depends on this one bar, to say one square. Everything exists and is in the service of that one category That is to say, in this case, almost all solution pleasure is sacrificed for that one category Plus (the bad), the puzzle ends up being not only less enjoyable but also played precisely because there are no theme answers. Quip parts have no punch They are just richly dolled up to take you to the end And they are harder to take (or for me) than theme answers because they have no answer integrity; That is, their indicators are only [more quip here], which is to say that they are basically clueless, and they do not stand alone as phrases, so they have to function like crosses to make any grammatical sense. And then the crosses themselves aren’t necessarily very pretty, for a number of reasons, not the least of which are that they’re limited and compromised by curse quips. When I saw those large 6×6-ish sections on the sides (E and W), I knew things were going to be DC there. Short downs up and down, you could fly them, but that part was slow going Anyway, it was a slog, of course, and then I get to the big payoff, which I don’t mind at all. It’s a nice little joke But it shouldn’t be
