2. “You can get a template with the letters of the size you want. Using the template, you can fill in the letters with fabric paint. If you do this, take your time and let each letter dry before moving on. You can also use the stencil and a felt-tip pen to trace the letters for application. If you use felt or something non-perishable for the application, it will be easier. If you want to use a nice satin for your appliqué letters, to prevent the letters from fraying while you work with them, first iron the material to heat n bond. This will seal the edges down and make it easier to work with. Then trace the letters, cut them out, iron in place and then use a blanket stitch by hand or sew the edges with your machine. Patience is the key. Allow yourself plenty of time as it will be a lot of work. When you’re done, you’ll be so pleased with the heirlooms you’re creating. I would try the different methods on different types of fabric and see what gives the look you want. I would personally use satin for the initials with the automatic satin stitch for a classy look.
