Lynn Toler Letters To The Daughter I Never Had – This month at the Well Women Show we are celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women in recognition of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. Whether intentional or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move forward. Knowing that bias exists is not enough. Action is necessary to level the playing field. Today I’m interviewing Jaime Glosche, co-director of Native Women Lead where she co-leads major efforts in capital expansion, fundraising and advocacy while leading program design, international development and evaluation oversight.
Previously, Jaime led Accion’s Native Lending program managing a portfolio of $1M+ and supported the development of Nusenda’s Co-op Capital initiative to pilot relationship-based lending. In 2019, she was appointed to lead the Tribal Subcommittee for the NM Census Complete Count Commission which activated an $11.5M state investment to ensure a complete 2020 count. Jaime holds a BA in Native American Studies and Political Science and an MPA in Public Management from the University of New Mexico. Jaime is a citizen of the Navajo, White Mountain Apache, and Kiowa Nations. She is a mother of three living in Tiwa region. Jaime enjoys hiking, visiting his ancestral homeland, and restorative reading.

Race and ethnicity link the gender wage gap: Median annual earnings for full-time, year-round work for Native American women were 60% of white non-Hispanic men, according to a 2020 analysis by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. (September 2021, IWPR #C505 Fact Sheet). Are there other sources of data or information you’re using that you’d like people to know about? The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #breakthebias and the campaign explores the daily challenges faced by women in the workplace and society.

Enjoy three more memorable films featuring leading Chinese American movie star Anna May Wong tonight on Turner Classic Movies. The first is drama
(1929), which was Wong’s last silent film and one of the first British productions she made. Wong’s sultry performance and dance scenes certainly made him a sensation in Britain. However, the film was not originally intended as erotic; A planned scene involving a kiss between Wong’s character and her white love interest was cut to appease the American movie censors of the time, who did not allow interracial intimacy to be shown on screen (this was one of the racist practices that tended to keep Wong out). .the leading-woman status must clearly be). It also helped rediscover and restore Wong’s reputation nearly 20 years ago, with some modern critics calling it his best film. a
The release marks Wong ahead of the movie’s top-billed actress, Gilda Grey, and tonight’s upcoming film is another instance where Wong is usually seen upstaged by her top-billed costars. This time, it’s Best Director Oscar nominee Josef von Sternberg’s best picture Oscar-nominated romantic adventure in his sexually charged scenes with the legendary Marlene Dietrich.
(1931), which stars Seisue Hayakawa, who along with Wong was one of the few well-known actors of Asian heritage at the time. Here, Wong, in one of the last of the stereotypical scheming “dragon lady” roles she was repeatedly offered, portrays Princess Ling Moy, who is Dr. Fu is Manchu’s vengeful daughter (played by Swedish American actor Warner Öland in another example, a racist “yellowface” practice common in the era). In addition to typecasting based on race, Wong also faced other forms of discrimination
When it comes to her salary as opposed to her male costars; Despite being the top-billed cast member, she was paid $4,000 less than Hayakawa and $6,000 less than Oland for her work, which is just under 25 minutes into the film.
