You won’t need to read last week to understand what that week says. As for the second question, Lewis himself was disturbed by what he wrote, which is why it is so important that it was written. The two most important things in any war are knowing the terrain on which the enemy is fighting and the enemy fighting each other. What better way to learn someone’s enemy than to imagine the world through their eyes? By writing from the perspective of evil Lewis opens our eyes to the tactics often used by the enemy (the devil and his demons) to trap us. The book, and its writing, disturbed him greatly for how easily it came. He had very little trouble imagining the demons and their specific plans to take down humans. It opens his own eyes to the evil that surrounds him and how the devil can deceive and use the simplest of ideas. Writing from that style also keeps us as readers from feeling like we’re sitting through a lecture about what we shouldn’t do and instead lets us, if we choose, compare our own lives to the unfortunate characters in the book. .(less)

Instead, the tempter focused on more subtle sins—wickedness, pride, Reluctance, insincerity, forgetfulness of God, and these things will achieve the same results as the sins that will More clearly… to lead us away from God. Ultimately, the tempter in this matter does not care what sin is committed by his subjects—as long as they achieve their goal of separating people from God, and leading them to the enemy. In fact, they seem to prefer the more subtle method of leading the people astray, as they feel this is a more hidden and safer way to accomplish their ultimate design. You cannot read this book and not think how much it has to do with your life. C. S. Lewis thought deeply about the things we do each that take us away from God, and God He clarified those things well.
