This popular Christmas carol can be relatively simple to play on the violin, since most of it is in descending G major scales. Watch out for that low 2 on the A string!

Carol of the Bells is a classic easy Christmas song that sounds great on the violin. Add those slurs when you’re ready. I’ve added some alternate fingers for that tricky ascending scale part. Use the lower 1st finger for D sharp.

Music Letter Notes

This is one of my favorite easy Christmas songs for violin. The first noel for violin is in good ole D major, so the normal or “upper” 2nd fingers for F sharp and C sharp.

If you’re up for a bit more of a challenge, try this violin sheet music for What Child Is This or Greensleeves. It has one layer: B flat which means the 1st fingers on the A string will be low (next to the nut!) but sometimes the B is natural so that’s where it always is. The C#s on the G string refer to the upper 3rd fingers. Have fun with this easy Christmas song for violin!

This month’s song is an old traditional Irish fiddle tune that’s also a popular bluegrass favorite: The Red-Haired Boy, also known as the Jolly Beggar.

This tune has the typical swinging dotted 8th note rhythm of the horn. This rhythm follows an eighth note pattern where the first eighth note is slightly longer than the second eighth note.

Some violinists find it very difficult to read the notation of dotted eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Sometimes it’s simpler to see the song in simple eighth notes and add your own “swing” to the eighth notes. I’ve included two versions of the fiddle warm-up and the song in this month’s song, so you can choose which one you like!

Easy Christmas Piano Songs With Letters All Products Are Discounted, Cheaper Than Retail Price, Free Delivery & Returns Off 60%

If you’re a fiddler and a fan of the Outlander series, you’ve probably also loved the soundtrack, which features great traditional Scottish fiddle tunes. As soon as I heard these songs, I had to grab my fiddle and give it a try. You’ll find that there are some tricky parts and some difficult rhythms, but if you’re familiar with the soundtrack, you can let your ears guide you. Here’s free sheet music for three of my favorite Outlander fiddle tunes.

Outlander’s theme song is definitely one of its most beautiful and haunting themes. It also sounds great on the violin. The original song dates back to the 19th century and deals with some of the events that actually happen in the original series.

The Skye Boat Song is in 6/8 time, so the eighth note gets hit. I like to strum the first three notes of each measure for a nice smooth melody, but feel free to experiment without any strumming. Make sure you use very small bows for those single eighth notes at the end of the measure, otherwise you’ll always find yourself stuck on the tip or the frog.

This song is fast! But don’t let that hold you back. Notes and rhythms are relatively easy. Start slowly at first, and as you speed it up, remember to use less bow to keep it under control. I aim for the center of the bow, which makes all those string crossings much easier.
