I was sure I could do it with the TEST KIT last week because I had symptoms of COVID. Unfortunately, I haven’t received a test in my area (Puget Sound) so I continue to live in ignorance. Much obliged, The symptoms have passed. It’s good to know that my family is being exposed. It will remain humbly preoccupied for weeks to come.

BOP IN is income with one eye. It’s a clue [Arrive casually]; I understand. I don’t think I’ve heard that before. Another eyebrow lifter is LA MISSION [2009 Benjamin Bratt film]. The actor knows I don’t know the movie. And I refused that entry because LA is Spanish but Spanish for MISSION is misión. Or L.A. MISSION? Frankly, I don’t care what I look like.

I’m glad we got this resolved when we came out on Wednesday night. Because this feels like a Wednesday theme. Mercury and Sun are WNBA teams; Mercury and Venus were Roman Gods; (Freddie) Mercury and (Bruno) Mars are MUSICIANS, Mercury and Saturn are auto-creators. There’s something about Mercury and Earth that doesn’t quite fit the inner planets – they’re just different because they’re planets and something else, so it left me wanting a little more for the planets to be…planets.

“Carly the country singer” PEARCE (16A). Admittedly, I don’t listen to any country. I didn’t know who it was. This crossover felt so justified and I needed all of it.

FAVORITE ADDITION: Pontiac FIERO (Although I love Chef Guy FIERI’s novelty quote, EURAIL PASSAGE, SOAKAGE, ADVERT, TRUE GRIT, Marcel MARCEAU is the one-liner on Mel Brooks

I usually grumble (loudly) when the Across Lite version of a Universal puzzle has circles that (for some reason) can’t be replicated in the versions released to most solvers. Oddly enough, I feel the opposite with this one. I prefer the way it appears in the Universal solving app/print.

Crosswords: Decode Clues

With the Across Lite version; I resolved it to be untitled, knowing that when it was finished, the circled letters would be read and would have something to do with a staircase. The clue for 16A asks the solver to “…note every black square in each of the four diagonal corners of the black square.” I think I would have preferred the puzzle in the print/online version. I mean, Those instructions were minimal, but I didn’t even notice they were on the four black squares.

And this supplement is great. This type of scene actually puts a lot of constraints on the grid, so there are four (!) grids: giant sea turtles; sealing with a kiss; It was very impressive to see the slaughter and animal safety. I’ve never heard the last word as a single phrase, but it works for me. Add to that dirty cop, ALAN ALDA, BYE NOW no name gone and a general lack of short complements.

Hello, Again. First, Most importantly, here’s hoping you do well and stay as safe as possible. and for those who have been directly or indirectly affected by the effects of the corona virus. I am absolutely thinking of you and hoping for the best in those cases — and all cases around the world.

Sorry for the lousy set, But it’s the same. Today’s puzzle is a bit overwhelming at first. Each of the four theme answers is a puncture created by strategically inserting two H’s into the first word to redefine that word and thus reshape the entire phrase.

Some solvers are startled by the presence of the “H” in the word “the” in “HUSHED THE FORCE” and may consider the slogan inconsistent. But I’m happy with it, especially since those tricky Hs only apply to the first word of each theme. The entry that got me a double hit was HOOT AT (6D: [Holler to from away]). I’ve never been with people who make noise-like noises trying to get people’s attention, so please let me know if you’ve seen/used this phrase. Never heard of the real word. The crossing of PEGBOX (15D: [where the violin strings are attached]) and ILEX made the solving experience less adventurous than it might have been, despite some familiarity with the former.
