We Wish You A Merry Christmas Piano Notes With Letters
The version presented here is played in G Major. It’s a relatively easy key to play (a sharp – F# – although there are occasional hiccups along the way), and most importantly, to sing.
Traditional English Folk Song
You’ll notice that the main “Merry Christmas” line is repeated three times, rising in pitch, but keeping to the same basic melodic shape.
For each phrase, the first and second notes are a perfect fourth apart (learn more about songs to help you learn intervals).
Running the notes is relatively easy, but it’s worth noting that the third phrase in this key begins with a black note in F#.
Below is a simple bass line from Carol. Most of the time, you only need to play one note (a dotted minor (half note)) per bar, and only four bars have the smallest (half note) and then the clef (quarter note).
We Wish You A Merry Christmas For Boomwhackers / Handbells
In the third version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, I added some extra notes for the right hand to create depth, always the highest note in the melody. The bass line remains the same, and you should never play more than three notes – once or twice with your right hand and one with the bass.
This final version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas uses a left-hand bass style with a little more movement.
