For those who don’t know what bubble letters are, it’s basically a typeface style where the letters look swollen and bloated like bubbles – hence the name.

Bubble letters are easy to learn and fun, but at the same time it’s easy to get lost without knowing some of the basics.

Bubble letters are also very popular in graffiti, but in this tutorial we will only focus on how to create bubble letters on paper.

There are different ways to create your bubble letters and in this tutorial I’ll show you the most basic way to do it.

The key idea behind Bubble Letters is to have rounded (outside) edges instead of sharp edges – like block letters.

Once we’ve added the thicker outline around the letter, we can delete the first shape we created at the beginning.

– that I mentioned we don’t have sharp outside edges, but having them inside helps achieve the puffy/bloated look we’re looking for.

I see a lot of beginners struggling to add shadows properly and it can be difficult when you’re just starting out.

This means that the shadows appear on each bottom and left side – basically on the opposite side of the light source.

We recently published another article where we shared some tips for improving your outline and inking skills.

Highlights are areas in an object closest to the light source where the light is reflected.

The easiest way to know where to add highlights is basically the opposite side of the shadows in this case.

We’re not going to put the highlight all the way to the edge of the letter, we’re going to leave a little space, which will make the letter look more rounded.

Since highlights are basically a reflection of light, the best way to make them stand out is to use a lighter color (doesn’t always have to be white).

We mentioned the basic construction of bubble letters above, and once you’re comfortable with that, you can start tweaking the shapes and creating your very own shapes.

Adding a second outline around the letter and the shadows is a great way to make your bubble letters pop even more.

If you want the letters to overlap, remember to add an outline—otherwise it could make the word difficult to read.

By simply adding a bit more detail to those inside edges, you can make your letter look more puffy.
