A quick story about Raoul Bova: his posters have been plastered on the walls of Italian youth for decades, thanks to the image of his matinee idol. He made a brief appearance in The Tourist (Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, 2010) which starred Jonny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
Under the Tuscan Sun is full of beautiful pictures of Italy and you will get “that relaxing feeling” watching it.
Let’s live in Tuscany (I know, it’s a tough life, huh?) and turn the clock back … say about 100 years.
Enchanting Books Like The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society
To me, Room with a View is classic – critics have attacked Merchant Ivory’s production for being more concerned with style than substance, but I disagree.
The cast is great: Helena Bonham-Carter, Dame Judy Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Simon Callow, Daniel Day-Lewis, Rupert Graves, Julian Sands … you will have fun watching this film.
, played by Bonham-Carter (before adopting his more appropriate Gothic persona in later life) writing letters and postcards. He also faints a few times.
I talked briefly about this movie before and I think, in terms of the main issues, it is probably a close match with Letters to Juliet and, I would say, a better movie overall. I’m sure my friend Patri (who I know is a huge fan of The Notebook) will be amused.

The main theme is a story told by James Garner, who read it to his wife (played by Gena Rowlands), who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. The story of 365 love letters… I’m not going to say much more than that other than “Ryan Gosling KLAXON!”
I have already mentioned this movie in a short time but let me refer to it again in this context because of the main theme of love books.
(Sandra Bullock) lives in a lake house (beautiful view, all defects, central heating, no noise boundaries and … with special travel powers) in 2006.
(Keanu Reeves) lived there in 2004… but wait… the letterbox is a trick and they can communicate in real time.

I’ve been on a quest to find books like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society since I first read them in 2018, ten years after they were published. How I missed his presence before, I don’t know. It’s not like it’s a hidden gem: the book became a New York Times bestseller in 2009. In retrospect, perhaps the buzz surrounding the film adaptation, also released in 2018, what sparked my interest.
Either way, this story caught me during a bad reading slump. One morning, he sat in a coffee shop, determined to distract me from my inability to survive.
. I was immediately amazed. I knew, as soon as I came across this passage, that this story was going to be a favorite:
I’m so glad your book found me, and mine found you. (…) I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is a secret meaning of the use of sitting in books to bring them to their perfect readers. How wonderful if that were true.

It took me a while to figure out what I really enjoyed about this story. Not perfect – not even
Enter the Good Nazi™ category. However, amidst all the chaos and sadness within its pages, it makes me happy. I love the epistolary format, I love the theme of Reading to keep you from going gaga (Really. That’s a real quote.), and most of all, I love the wonderful relationships between Juliet, Dawsey, and the rest of the gang. . It is a story of hope, of finding joy and friendship even in the midst of fear. These are topics that I will always be interested in.
