Carol Of The Bells Piano Sheet Music With Letters
Carol Of The Bells Piano Sheet Music With Letters – “Carol of the Bells” is a choral work composed by Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmitrovich Leontovich (1877-1921). The music was based on a traditional Ukrainian folk hymn called Shchedryk (meaning “abundant”) and associated with the New Year. In English, the song is called either “Carol of the Bells” or “Ring, Christmas Bells” and is often sung by a “capella” (unaccompanied) choir. The composer created a number of versions of the song depending on the nature of the choral, and other versions were created in different languages. The main feature of the hymns is the ‘ostinato’ – a repeating pattern of 4 tones that continues throughout the piece. It is a famous Christmas song, and the English version which is known as “Carol of the Bells” was created by Ukrainian American composer Peter Wilhosky which has been used in many films including the Christmas movie Home Alone.
This arrangement of solo instrument and piano was designed by Jim Patterson. It’s illustrated here for the clarinet and piano, but we’ve included the musical notation to allow other instruments to take the place of the clarinet. In all cases, the piano must be played from sheet music. This is the clarinet part (which can also be played with the trumpet in B-flat). In addition, we have the following replacement parts for instruments in C: Main, High and Basss in F: Horn1 (Cor Anglais) or Horn2 (French Horn) s in E-flat: Sax (Alto Saxophone) and Viola: Viola (Alto) clef ). We also have hymn arrangement for piano solo.

I’ve always loved Carol of the Bells. For one thing, it sounds just like its name – pretty Christmas bells ring with a melancholy melody!
This piece was written in 1914 by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovich. He certainly wrote a melody like no other! In the more than 100 years since it was first written, Carol of the Bells Christmas Song has become known worldwide, appeared in many films, and is performed by many famous musicians.

The first version keeps everything nice and simple. The left hand is limited to individual notes and a few time intervals.
The middle version of the bells chants adds a few extras, like the third when the ostinato moves up, and some sixteen notes on the chorus. Adds more spice to the song!
I chose to arrange Carol of the Bells in the key of a minor. This makes it especially easy for those new to the piano, as the minor does not have sharp instruments or flats in it.
The overall structure of the song is simple. It begins with a repetitive pattern in the right hand that continues for a few actions. (This is also known as an ostinato.) This pattern will eventually move to higher tones, and then begin some flowing melodies and scales.
Prelude/carol Of The Bells
With the easy version, I tried to keep the left hand side too simple. It contains single tones or time intervals across the entire song, so you won’t have to worry about moving through a group with both hands at the same time.
When you learn this song, don’t forget to pay attention to the dynamics too! I’ve included some notes on the music, but here are some additional notes:
While the notes to Carol of the Bells may sound intimidating, they are actually made up of very simple chords.
During an ostinato repetition, there is not one particular chord that occurs there. But once we get to the chorus section there are clearly defined chords.
Leontovich. Carol Of The Bells
During this section there is ample opportunity for creativity and improvisation. You can improve by playing literally any notes in the small scale (so any white keys!)
This is how my dad and I like to teach this piece – as a way to learn to improvise. While sticking with the original melody is fine, you can add different time intervals, change the tempo, or create new melodies too!
For this section, the general chord is E major. If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding a big reflection of the letter E in the left hand after playing the base note.
