It was released on September 23, 2008 through his own record label, Martyr Inc., under Hickory Records/Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The album sees Everlast move away from hip hop in favor of alternative rock and blues rock. The album peaked at number 15 in Switzerland, number 61 in Germany, number 78 on the US Billboard 200, and number 132 in France.

The record included the single and video for “Letter from Stone Garden”, which was made available for free download in December 2007 via martyr-inc.com, a DJ Muggs-produced cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”. Released for download on August 19, The Last Rock in My Hand was first released on Shahid-inc.com on October 28, 2008, and later appeared in the 2011 movie Drive Angry. All tracks on the album were written and produced by Keefus Ciancia and Everlast, except for “Naked” and “Folsom Prison Blues” produced by DJ Lethal.
