Crossword puzzles have been published in newspapers and other publications since 1873. They consist of a grid of squares on which the player must write words both horizontally and vertically.

Let’s Solve Word Puzzles Event

Next to the crossword there will be a series of questions or clues that refer to different rows or rows of cells in the crossword. The player reads the question or clue and tries to find a word that answers the question with the same number of letters as the boxes in the corresponding line or line of the crossword puzzle.

Some words will have letters in common, so they must match each other. Words can vary in length and complexity, as can clues.

The great thing about crossword puzzles is that they are completely flexible for whatever age or reading level you need. You can use a lot of words to make a complex crossword puzzle for adults, or just a couple of words for younger children.

Crosswords can use any word, big or small, so there are literally countless combinations you can create for patterns. The template is easy to customize according to the age or learning level of your students.

Word of the Day:EDSELS (41D: group with the 1961 hit “Rama Lama Ding Dong” with “the”) – The Edsels were an American doo-wop group active in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The band’s name was originally The Essos, after the oil company (!!!), but was changed to match the new Ford car, the Edsel. They recorded over 25 songs and performed several times on the American Dick Clark stage. Today, the band is known almost exclusively for the song “Rama Lama Ding Dong”, written by vocalist George “Wydell” Jones Jr. The song was recorded in 1957 and released under the erroneous title “Lama Rama Ding Dong” in 1958. It did not become popular until 1961, after a disc jockey in New York began playing it as a sequel to Marseille’s doo-wop version of “Blue Moon”. (wikipedia)

Crossword Puzzle Clues: How Many Can You Get Right?

Hi all. This is Amy Nelson, another new member of Rexword, and I’m thrilled to be able to fill in for you today.

The solution to this puzzle was highlighted by a wonderful experience. Everyone had a good time. Throughout, the grid pretty much contained what I felt was fresh content, relatively speaking (at least LIESL got another day off, bless her heart). There was also a minimum number of crosswords with which one could get confused. But at the same time, I wouldn’t call it a particularly entertaining puzzle. And Byron Walden’s previous puzzles for The New York Times, in my experience, were generally delightful solutions to events (though insanely difficult at times), so my expectations may have been unfairly high. However, I’ll go ahead and call out some of the hardPASS I had to hand out in this one.

First of all, ORGANIZER ??? I just… I can’t deal with this. And I don’t want to with it. The PRETTY hint directly signaled (in what was not very noisy to me) that the answer would be work involving, well, something other than standing. (At first I just wrote “sitting”, but I think there are also jobs where you lie down… a lot? Like… a mechanic? Is there such a thing as a professional sleeper? great job. I would like to be like this when I grow up, please.) But really, DESK PERSON? I could honestly rant about this one answer to my entire post, but you get the point. I don’t want to immediately become a one-note HAND.

Other “no” moments for me were the NFL (get out of my crossword if you’re already taking up so much space in my daily news, please and thank you), JUICE BAR (just… blah) and BUBBA, or something else in particular. , perhaps an outdated (and much less light-hearted in the #MeToo era) allusion to BUBBA[27A: Nickname of Bill Clinton]. Vanderpump Rule Watchers, assemble! (IYKYK.)

Also, I don’t think it would hurt anyone if the NYT just let SSN and OLE rest, even if only temporarily. I know, I know, pigs are more likely to fly, etc. I can at least appreciate the unexpected clue for OLE [44A: “Still the Same ___ Me” (George Jones album)] this time. But E-TAIL can go further and be burned at the stake, set on fire and thrown into the sea, and perhaps in the end it will become as if it was never there.

Highlights, and there were several, included JUMP FOR JOY[5A: Jubilate] (key-to-reply alliteration? and with J, no less? *chef’s kiss*) and PÈRE[25A: ___ Noël], but Christmas The season is one of my favorite things in life, so maybe I’m biased. I also really liked the smart hints for MEDIUM [7D: Death Reminders?] and FALLING ISSUES [37A: This should happen in the third quarter]. doing “quarters” and therefore trying to come up with the name of any baseball position that would, idk, do that in that part of the baseball game?).

Also, since the IUD was apparently designed to take on all the [26A: Birth Control Form] key burden for *checks watch* ever, VAsectomy is shown here as a brighter, more interesting filling, as well as an example topical fill that isn’t a) as polite on the nose as the NFL, or b) related to something special, as Rex put it on TASE Thursday, highly off-putting.

However, even with random amusements scattered throughout the grid, it seemed like the puzzle as a whole was weighed down with a higher proportion of tasteless answers and/or clues. Downward responses, in my opinion, suffered more from this than acrossward responses, for example, when a row of two-word responses in the northeast corner (JUICE BAROSCAR BIDYES DEAR) flowed into the southwest corner (CHAT LINELEFT ENDS) before essentially merging into an equally unremarkable shorter fill (TROOPEDBATTENSFULLER). I mean, whether it suits you personally or not, at least BIDENOMICShas unfamiliarity/novelty works for it.

On the other hand, AREA will probably never be the one that solves the puzzle, and DEFER will not bring much to [43A: Tables] either. reduced to some degree, whether it be tedious parallel responses like ULTRAS or blurring effect crosses like BORE ORAL PASS. These instances, for lack of a better way to describe it, exacerbate the global quality of this puzzle, leaving shiny bits of infill all too often in the shadows.

In conclusion, I would say that this week’s Saturday edition was somewhat easier than others we’ve seen in recent weeks. However, there were some answers that I was only able to get because I knew enough
