Since I started taking the course here in Paris, many people have messaged me with questions. how to apply if the cost of living is high, what are the classes like? I decided to collect all the questions in this post to try to clarify as much as I can. I am currently halfway through the course and intend to post my final thoughts on this experience as soon as I finish. Each year, Pantone selects a color of the year, and this year’s selection is Ultra Violet, a purple shade associated with galaxies, creativity, imagination and spiritual reflections.

Today’s DIY Letter Board has been a long time coming. I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, and now that the Christmas season is coming up, I thought it would be fun to try and make what I had in my head a reality. So, with that being said, here is my tutorial for a large chalkboard wall with a giant DIY holiday wreath.

I’ve been gravitating towards more simple, minimalist decor lately. Simplicity feeds my soul and soothes my soul. I think it’s probably just that my life can get pretty crazy with my three little ones. So the less clutter and things I have to keep, the less stressed I am.

History: So, like I said, I’ve been obsessed with the look of chalkboards for a long time, and when we installed the chalkboard in our kitchen, I just knew it would make all my decor dreams come true. I mean, you can basically leave those walls blank and they’re a masterpiece.

Yes Yes! Enough of my peeing shiplap. I wanted to make a big statement on this wall for Christmas. An oversized wreath was floating around on my mind, along with my never-ending need to switch things up every now and then… so I just KNEW that a letter board-wreath was the perfect solution.

One thing I love about this particular project is that I can easily get the kids involved. And they can choose quotes (bible verses, songs, or even spelling words, aren’t I so funny?). It is very easy to change letters.

I used this board set from House Hathaway. It comes with letters and white shelf letters.

I wanted the whole piece to flow with the space and I’m so pleased with how it all turned out.

So now for the tutorial. Each shelf edge has a groove cut into it. This allowed the letter tiles to stand upright in the groove.

Next, I hug them to the wall of my ship. One thing I love about ships is that all the horizontal lines are straight and even… so I don’t have to worry about measuring. I literally nailed the studs into the cracks between my shipboard and just put the shelf boards on the long nails I used. The blinds have a saw hardware attached to the back, so you can hang them that way too.

Many of you have asked me about the wreath part. First, I wanted to go with real greenery, but I knew fake was the only way to go if I wanted to keep it for a long time. So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought two grapevine wreaths. They are with the small leaves of my arrangement.

I then attached it to the wall by wrapping the wire vines over some nails I added to the ship.

Then I went out and got real bradford pear branches from our yard and added them to the wreath. A few tips for using real affiliates.

Once I lined up the wreath and shelves, I leveled the edges of my four shelves to make sure they were centered.

This photo is a little washed out, but I thought the angle showed the structure of the wreath better.

How To Make A Reversible Porch Sign

I made a pencil mark in the exact center of each shelf to help me line up all my letters. I always count how many letters are on a line (blank spaces between words count as one letter) and then center it to that mark. When writing my text, I like to put a tile between each letter (and one to the side for white space) so that all measurements are accurate and even.

I didn’t want to use Christmas greenery for this wreath simply because I wanted this display to last year round if needed.
