A few years ago I shared a how to make a DIY wood cut out name tutorial. It shares all the steps needed to cut a word or name out of wood including how to make a free template to trace the word onto wood. I followed the same steps for this, just below the font.
#1. Using the right jigsaw blade will make this project much easier. Be sure to use a blade with a high tooth count. At least 18-20 TPI (teeth per inch).
#2. Set the jigsaw to high speed, let the jigsaw do the work, just guide it and give yourself plenty of room on corners and turns. When you turn a corner very gently, you will get a clean cut.
#3. Cut the sharp angles and “v” by cutting in one direction and then meeting your first cut from the other direction.

#4. When you need to stop cutting, raise the jigsaw about 1/2” before taking your finger off the saw trigger.
#5. Cut a wooden dowel on a work bench or flat surface with an opening in the center. See the picture below. It is much easier to work on large name cutting outs of wood when the wood is being supported on both sides.
#6. Drill pilot holes in the center of letters like e or o to bring your blade in to start cutting capital letters.
#7. It’s okay to modify the shape of your font. Thicken the thin areas, connect the letters better and bring the point of the i down to rest on the letter.

After cutting your large word or wooden letters, just smooth the rough edges with sander and paint! easy peasy
This project is clearly for an Amelia. She is my 1 week old granddaughter. I painted some meaningful family items on his woodcut name. See the little purple bouquet? When my girls were little I didn’t have much of a decorating budget. I painted their entire bathroom like this with purple bouquets tied in ribbons. It looked like wall paper and was beautiful. I’m sure my daughter will recognize it when she sees it.
Pink and green paint were part of my mother’s paints. He was an artist and I still use many of his paint brushes and some of his other supplies including some paint that miraculously didn’t dry.
I think it turned out cute. The only thing I would change is the letter A more. That odd dip in size was how the font was shaped.
