How To Hang Heavy Wooden Letters – These custom outdoor wood sign letters are available in a variety of sizes and two materials. We can cut your wooden sign from solid cedar or MDO (Medium Density Veneer).
Cedar letters are available in smaller sizes, such as 5- to 10-inch letters. Order these natural wood letters unfinished and ready to be painted or stained. Finish options such as hard enamel can be made in our shop prior to shipment.

MDO letters are popular for large outdoor wooden letters. They have a smooth finish on the front and back, with visible layers on the sides ready for paint and sealing. Do it yourself or have us finish them with automotive paint.

There are studs for hanging. The studs are threaded aluminum studs that protrude from the back of the figure. The mounting template shows the location of the studs and the numbering is used to drill the holes in the mounting wall. You can also mount wooden figures with heavy duty glue.
The letter height you order is based on the capital “A” of the font you specify. Depending on the font, some upper/lower case letters may be shorter or taller than the height you specify on the order form, so they appear proportional. So you may receive some of your letters in a different size than the letter height you ordered. If all the letters were ordered in lowercase, we would still shift the letters to a capital ‘A’, which would make most letters smaller than they were ordered. Letters 3/8 inch and thinner are laser cut, leaving a dark smooth edge.

To install a wooden letter, start by placing it on the wall and when it is positioned the way you want it, mark the top edge with a pencil or sticky note. If your letter doesn’t have pre-drilled holes, drill a bit into the back of the wood. Next, press your letter into the top edge mark and make additional marks that fit into each letter hole on the wall. Hammer nails into the marked areas to create hooks, then hang your letter on them.
