Oh The Places You’ll Go Bulletin Board Letters

Oh The Places You’ll Go Bulletin Board Letters – One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is Oh Where You Go! I love all the inspiring quotes in the text so much that I make it a theme throughout the year.

I created this Oh Where You Go Bulletin Board Bundle, which includes 2 display options that can be used at the beginning of the year for Dr. Seuss’s birthday, open house, or graduation. Choose one of the monitors, or use them both at different times of the year like I do!

Includes 27 balloon templates in color and black and white options! Elementary to fifth grade writers can use the elementary and regular typography formats.

“When I grow up,” “If I could go anywhere,” “This year, I will…” “This year, (name blank line) will (insert one year goal).”

The color version is designed using similar colors to the balloons seen in the book. Print the color version on white card stock.

As I mentioned, my theme this year is oh where you’re going! I love starting the new year with the Pastel Bulletin Board option. I use the prompt, “This year, (students write their names) will (I write them tell me their goals in the second blank).”

I end the year with a 3-D monitor and the “When I grow up” prompt that students can do independently at that time. I displayed 3-D crafts and writing on a bulletin board outside the auditorium where our kindergarten graduation was held. They are always a hit!

If you’re like me and my librarian friends, you’ll love Dr. Seuss Week, also known as Read Across America. It’s really just a good excuse to say out loud how much we love reading! What could be better? !

So this year, we launched a lot of initiatives. We usually do this, adding one on top of the other, until we’re about to lose it and we think we can’t do one more thing. And then we’re like, “…wait! If we…” We added one more thing. I’ve been expecting my principal to say, “Ladies, seriously. That’s enough.” But she hasn’t said it yet, so let’s keep building the fun stuff!

This year, we’re getting ready for Read Across America from the bulletin board (by the way, we’re celebrating a week early so we don’t have to beat all the other literacy coaches and librarians to get their guest readers).

We downloaded an app called Cat Cam from the iPhone’s app store. It’s interesting. Here is my cat webcam photo:

We knew we wanted to take photos of the faculty and make a fun bulletin board out of them, but to build some anticipation, I put up this section of the bulletin board about three weeks before Read Across America.

We then used the Cat Cam app to take pictures of all the faculty and staff and made this fun bulletin board!

The text in this image is too small to read, but on the left it says “Celebrate Dr. Seuss Week, February 23-27” (yes, I know that’s not a real week!) On the right it says, “From From there to here, from here to there, there are funny things everywhere!”

Kids love it! They kept pointing out their teacher and giggling, especially when their teacher was number one!

I stuck some black butcher paper on the wall and then used a projector to project the image onto the black butcher paper and trace it. We cut them out. Then we did the same with the chairs on the red paper.

I’ve nailed the blue fabric on the board and the Dr. Seuss border, which my beautiful sister-in-law bought me for 80% off during the Office Depot out of business sale! We nailed the silhouettes and chairs, then I marked the window panes with painter’s tape, running horizontally and vertically along the middle of the planks.

I took the red tablecloth (we used two separate tablecloths to make the two curtains) and I bound the edge of a tablecloth along the edge of the plank. Then I kept stapling and rubbing so that the top looked crumpled. I tied them behind like curtains with some ribbon.

We printed and cut out all the Cat Cam pictures, then I stapled them all and finally added the lettering on the board. Oh I put the cute paper banner I bought at Eraser Dust on it!

We had all these lovely, brightly patterned fabrics, so I thought, “Why not? Let’s make Seuss Mountain out of it!”

I pin the fabric to… art? Make the hills and valleys like in the book, “oh where you’re going”. Then I added another small layer in the back that looked like distant hills. The “balloons” are also made of fabric, I pinned them to the edges and filled them with the remaining fabric to puff them up.

I recently realized that loofahs look like truffle trees. Well, used loofahs looked more like truffles, but they were also gross, so I used some new loofahs for our tree. Has become one of Dr. Seuss’s most popular and enduring classics. This book is especially prized in schools, where creative teachers use it to talk about goal setting, growth mindset, and more. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites

As a basis for creating classroom time capsules! After having each student create a signpost showing their dreams and possible paths (and complete paragraphs describing those dreams), students put their work into a time capsule that doesn’t open until the end of their elementary school career.

By having students research and plan their dream trip or vacation. This idea from Inner Child Fun also has students creating super cute suitcases to show off their writing!

This book is the perfect subject to explore and talk about different professions. We love how this school invites local experts to talk to students about careers they may not know about.

The blogger takes a creative twist to the book’s message: She rewards the kids for good behavior with pom-poms, and when the jar is full, the class begins a fun outing. “Where you’re going” doesn’t have to be fancy either — when you’re in third grade, an extra trip to the library is special!

8. Invite students to write letters to their future selves. Eighth graders have their last secondary school counselor @ButFirstSEL SEL class! “Oh, these places, you’ll go,” and a letter from their sixth graders themselves. @StationMS220 @MrsKristenPaul #stationnation #kidsdeserveit #betheone #memories pic.twitter.com/HQgVeTSaFj — Mrs Suessen (@Suessen220) May 15, 2018

Challenge students to write a letter to their future selves. Bonus: This works for little ones and big kids alike!

We love this college admissions bulletin board that shows various college names on balloons with the student’s name underneath. If you teach elementary school, you can create the same boards where faculty members go to college.

Deciding how to stage, film, and project what you read aloud is a great project for the beginning or end of the year.
