The key idea behind Bubble Letters is to have rounded (outside) edges instead of sharp edges – like block letters.
Once we’ve added the thicker outline around the letter, we can delete the first shape we created at the beginning.

I see a lot of beginners struggling to add shadows properly and it can be difficult when you’re just starting out.
This means that the shadows appear on each bottom and left side – basically on the opposite side of the light source.
We recently published another article where we shared some tips for improving your outline and inking skills.
Highlights are areas in an object closest to the light source where the light is reflected.

The easiest way to know where to add highlights is basically the opposite side of the shadows in this case.
We’re not going to put the highlight all the way to the edge of the letter, we’re going to leave a little space, which will make the letter look more rounded.
Since highlights are basically a reflection of light, the best way to make them stand out is to use a lighter color (doesn’t always have to be white).
Working with colors is a whole other story in itself, and explaining how to properly use them in your lettering would really lengthen this tutorial.
