Happy December, CrossWorld! Radio nerd Matthew returns to Rex today. This puzzle felt all over the place for me (hence the slower than average time) and I’ll start with a good bit. For starters, I think the theme works pretty well, even for the second Thursday in a row to break the “only three words or longer” rule. I love the ~ two themes below, especially PEOPLE IS ISLAND — I can’t really explain why I found it so funny. TWO WAYS ABOUT IT is good too. Which brings us to … the middle of the grid … where it feels like everything – somewhat inexplicably – is about pain and suffering?
You have HAPPY BACK PUSSY (which I haven’t heard before) from FRAGRANT FLAYS (here was expecting something more like Ramsay Bolton) from MYANMAR, which is somewhat distant (see (see also: Yemen) … but hey, at least there’s always a meaner, meaner SANS comic to cheer you up!
