Next to the conversation there will be a series of questions or marks, which are related to different lines or lines of boxes in the conversation. The player reads a question or clue, then tries to find the word that answers the question in the same letter as there is a box in the row or line of the crossword related to it.

Hello, everyone, it’s Clare – this time for the first Tuesday of the month! Now that football season is over (nice win, Chiefs), it’s time for some baseball! Only 50 days until opening day. And even a few days into the preseason, when a guy in one of my law school classes would bring up every other Mets game, full screen on his laptop in front of me. I’m worried that my Giants will drink again this year, especially without MadBum, but at least no one can accuse them of cheating! Anyway… and confused…

Nevis is a small island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain of the West Indies. Nevis and the neighboring island of Saint Kitts are one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Nevis is located near the northern tip of the Lesser Antilles, about 350 km east-southeast of Puerto Rico and 80 km west of Antigua. Its area is 93 square kilometers (36 sq mi) and its capital is Charlestown. (Wiki)

I found this to be a puzzle in the middle of Tuesday’s path – nothing against it but the sound of love. The theme is straightforward, and the revelation itself is evident. That being said, I liked some of the words that were used as the subject answers. I’ve seen a lot of movies/TV shows and read a lot of books on the LOVE TRIANGLE (although they’re only interesting when the couple you’re rooting for is doing it; #MerDer for life). I recently adopted SHEHORNS into my vocabulary after my professor used the word about 12 times in one class, and I’ve enjoyed using the word ever since. I tried to put “glass” CHAMPAGNE instead of F LUTES before I realized that: a) it has too many letters; b) the puzzle is clearer than I expected; and, well, c) it fits the theme! I think that listing sexual organs as “the subject of a medical class drawing” is a bit of a misnomer. And, looking back at the theme answers, it makes little sense to get all the theme answers to be two words (with the second word being “making music”) and have a one word answer, SHOEHORNS, in There. .

I may have run out of steam at the end, but I knocked some off the SE corner. I have problems with the sex part because of the terrible show. I tried to put “NSA” first, instead of CIA, for 53A: Org. has a named program. It took me a while to get INRI (54D: Letter and cross), RAM and GNU did not appear to me as clear answers for, respectively, 58D: Animal in a herd and 59D: Animal in a herd cow. . I liked the repetition and the back and forth encounters, though.

The repetition I didn’t like happened two more times. One is in 9D: Most and 50D: Most. There is no point in repeating that. And, 007 is used twice in the complex – in the 10D and in the 57D. Again, this repetition seems to be half done.

I liked some of the long falls – a couple of favorites were CHICANERY (32D: Moral Deceit) and OK I’LL BITE (11D: “Sure, Try Me”). I really like the words, although I’m not very fond of IDNO (48D: Fig. on a driving license or passport) and CUBER (35D: Expert solver of Rubik’s toys). In fact, I had never heard of CUBER Rubik before.

I found my own little theme in the confusion: “the best.” We have the best tennis player of all time – Roger Federer (27D) as the symbol for SWISS; Best James Bond of all time – Daniel CRAIG (10D); and the best first lady of all time – Michelle OBAMA (24D).Sporty Spiders, informally / THU 12-20-2018 / A statement about British geography? / Mr. Potato Main Section / E-station icon

Happy December, CrossWorld! Matthew the radio nerd is here for Rex today. This puzzle has an effect on me (so it’s slower than average time), I’ll start with a little bit better. For starters, I think the article works well, even for the second Thursday in a row to break the “three-words-or-longer-only” rule. I love the two-pointer, especially MAN IS A BOOK – I can’t explain why I find it so funny. Both WAYS about it are fine. Which brings us to…the middle of the road…where it seems that everything is – a little bit – about pain and suffering?

You’ve got SKIN OFF MY BACK (which I’ve never heard of before) passing through the rosily-cluedFLAYS (expecting something more Ramsay Bolton-esque here) passing through the somewhat distantly-cluded MYANMAR (see also: Myanmar) and -past painfully-unknown-cludedYEMEN (see also:Yemen)

This whole stretch left a really good taste in my mouth. While I believe that conversation can also be a way of escape and entertainment in our lives, I believe that those who are confused have a responsibility to teach when the situation presents itself. Associating MYANMAR – a country that has denied the Rohingya citizenship and persecuted the Rohingya on a massive scale for over 30 years – as the “Home of the Rohingya” feels absurd. And cluing YEMEN as anything other than a reference to what is happening in 2018 feels wrong.

As an avid developer, I love the amount of work that goes into these puzzles. But this seems like it could have been better. Good holiday, y’all.
