The campus review and feedback process is done to enhance the overall application, not to exclude anyone from the process. The campus committee meeting serves two purposes:

The Spring Fulbright Writing Workshop is a two-part series led by staff and faculty of the Writing Program. The first workshop will introduce the Fulbright Student Program USA and the campus application process. Participants will then divide into small groups to review successful essay examples by funding type. The second panel will feature a panel of recent USC Fulbright recipients, followed by panel discussions to discuss the ingredients that make their application documents compelling.

The purpose of the Fulbright Claims Advisory Day is to provide feedback on your application documentation. Participation is optional, but strongly encouraged. A Fulbright Program Advisor or a Writing Program instructor will meet with you for 30 minutes in a pre-assigned meeting.

English Teaching Support (ETA) Program Grants ETA grants are offered in many countries and are designed by the host country to primarily participate in an English class. However, ETAs may propose small research projects or community engagement activities to supplement their award and fulfill the purposes of the Fulbright program. Applicants must demonstrate interest and ability to teach in their application.

What is the purpose of the campus interview? The purpose of the on-campus interview is to provide more information about your candidacy for the National Screening Committee. Interviews are your only chance to state directly why you want to teach, study or research abroad. Each candidate will be interviewed individually for approximately 30 minutes by a panel of UA faculty and staff. Panel members can ask students about contacts they have made abroad, academic preparation for study, knowledge of the host country, and language training.

How does the panel evaluate applicants? The panel’s assessment of your application is based on a review of your completed application and an on-campus interview. A panel of the Screening Committee will evaluate the content and feasibility of your proposal, your language preparation, your knowledge of the host country, etc., and then complete the Schedule grassroots committee evaluation form. The panel will evaluate your candidate. The campus interview is NOT a mechanism for disqualifying applicants, but it is a mechanism for evaluating — not ranking — applicants.
