A canoe, if you’re not familiar, is a type of watercraft often called a kayak. Canoes are usually pointed at both ends and open at the top. The original form of the word canoe was kanawa, the Ar’awakan word for a dugout canoe in the Caribbean. Kanawa eventually became the Spanish/Portuguese word for canoe. Until the middle of the 19th century, this tiny boat was the primary means of transport for trade and exploration.

A sore throat is considered a severe pain or spasm, but it can also be a difficult struggle that occurs at the beginning or end of a task. It is therefore not surprising that throe comes from the Middle English word throu, which is the contraction of the womb during childbirth. It is also often associated with death throes, which is an expression of suffering during death.
Pekoe will tantalize your taste buds as it is a high quality black tea made from young leaves grown in Sri Lanka, India and Java. The origin of the word pekoe is somewhat obscure, but it is believed to come from the Chinese word pek-ho (or white fluff), which can be traced back to “picking while the leaves still have fluff.”
Chances of having a mahoe in your yard are probably slim unless you live in a certain country. The mahoe, also known as melicytus ramiflorus or whiteywood, is a small tree native to New Zealand. One of the most common trees in this nation, the mahoe can grow over 30 feet tall with a trunk nearly two feet in diameter. The mahoe has whitish bark, brittle twigs, dark green leaves and small yellowish flowers. It also bears berries that are a bright purple color when ripe.
