Paper Mache Letters Michaels – All my best tips and ideas on how to make these super easy and cheap papier mache letters. I got them at Michaels and used gel plate paper to frame them! This was the easiest homemade project I’ve ever made! You can grunge them up to look more vintage!

Okay, maybe you’re like me and have been seeing these letters at Michaels for years and wondering what to do with them! I always thought they were cool, but for some reason this time they just jumped out at me and I thought I would “write” S-P-O-O-K-Y.

You want to remove any stickers or price tags. I’ve done other projects before where I left them and it was a pain afterwards.

Then, front and back, cover them with gesso. Gesso is the “primer” that will seal your letters AND allow the tissue paper to stick to them better!

Another nice thing about gesso (especially for a Halloween project) is that it comes in black and white so you can really get the right kind of base color for your doilies!

I made some cool Halloween paper the other day ( video ) and thought I had TONS of it. Come to find out it takes a LOT of tissue paper to cover the words.

Ways To Makeover A Wood Letter With Mod Podge

The last thing I did (check out the easy 3 step process!) was to paint the sides and then a little around the edges of the letters. This really seemed to make a big difference and made them look “professional”.

And this is how they look on my mantle! I go through and make all the different projects here, but I have to say this was so easy and fun, I’ll definitely be making some Christmas paper letters too!

Once I finish the whole project I’ll see if I want to dress them up a bit, but for now I love how these decorating ideas turned out!

You can also use them as party decorations on your buffet table or on the table by the door when trick or treating comes along!
