Words With Letters Simply
Words With Letters Simply – A pleasant little daily routine, Wordle is a simple, shareable word guessing game that’s gaining popularity on Twitter
If you’ve noticed a lot of posts on Twitter that contain a bunch of colored boxes, you’ve come across the latest word game to sweep (parts of) the Internet: a pleasant little brain teaser called Wordle.

Simply put, Wordle is a free word guessing game available online: guess a five-letter word in six tries or less. Wordle explains the rules in a handy pop-up when you first load the game, but it’s all pretty straightforward: if the letter in your guess isn’t in the target word, the letter turns gray. If it is in the word, but not in the correct position, it turns yellow. If it is in the word and in the right place, it turns into a beautiful shade of green. You have six ways to get it right – and if you get it right one time, it’s weird/basically impossible.
There’s only one puzzle per day for each person – a sort of newspaper crossword or Sudoku – so once you’ve completed one puzzle, you have to wait for the next one.
Everyone guesses the same word and thus competes against each other every day – the reason it’s so popular is that you can easily share the results (despite the occasional mistake):
Above you can see how many guesses I made, which letters came out wrong and right, and even translated how I got the answer. Importantly, the results are spoiler-free; it tells how I went without giving the actual solution. It’s also a bit of a knowing in-joke for those who already play, while outsiders ask “what are all the box emojis?”

It’s quick to replicate, easy to share, and sparks conversations online about the solution—and how well everyone did.
Wordle is the project of Reddit engineer Josh Wardle, who (as Mark Serrels recalls for CNET) has previously created some interesting experiments — including the platform’s Button and Place. Originally launched in mid-October, Wordle only started gaining popularity last week when Wardle added the ability to share results.
