Chris Watts killed his daughters CeCe, 3, and Bella, 4, in the oil field where he buried his wife Shanann in a shallow grave.
On September 30 has made him famous all over the world. And now there is international interest in Cheryln Cadle’s book,
Watts began corresponding with Cadle after she sent him her first letter in February 2019. According to DailyMail Online, she wrote: “Let me just say, the crime was horrible, so I’m not writing to tell you how wonderful you are are or that I want to be a pen pal.”
The 65-year-old author told her publishers last year that she and Watts exchanged close to “100 phone calls and thousands of words in letters he wrote himself.”
Shanann Watts’ Final Letter To Chris Watts — What Letter Said
In one of his handwritten letters, Watts describes how he first tried to kill his daughters before strangling his wife.
He said that on the morning of August 13, 2018, he went into his daughters’ room before arguing with Shanann.
“I went to Bella’s room, then CeCe’s room and used a pillow from their bed. Therefore, the cause of death was suffocation. After I left CeCe’s romance, I climbed back into bed with Shanann and our argument began.
“After Shanann passed, Bella and CeCe woke up again. I’m not sure how they woke up again, but they did. It makes the act that much worse to know that I went into their rooms first knowing that I took their lives still where the batteries were.’

Cadle told his publishers that it was difficult to “hear the gruesome details of the murders from the killer himself.” To hear how he took his girls and then coldly put them in those oil batteries. It was hard to visit a murderer and have to be thoughtful and kind to someone who later sought attention and enjoyed being famous.”
In his confession to police in Frederick, Colorado, Watts said the killings were voluntary, but his letters to Cadle suggest otherwise.
“On August 12th when I had put the girls to bed, I walked away and said, ‘This is the last time I’m going to put my kids in. I knew what was going to happen the day before and I did nothing to stop it!”
He later said of Shanann, “Isn’t it weird how I look back and what I remember so much is her face going black with mascara?” All the weeks I thought about killing her, and now I was faced with it…

“I knew if I took my hands off her she would still keep me away from Nikki. They asked me why she couldn’t fight back, it’s because she couldn’t fight back. Her eyes filled with blood; when she looked at me and she died. I knew she was gone when she lost weight.”
Watts drove to the oil field where he buried Shanann, suffocating CeCe first and then he went to Bella.
“Little quiet Bella had a will to live.” Of the three, Bella is the only one who fought. I will hear her soft little voice for the rest of my life, saying, “Daddy, NO!!!” She knew what I was doing to her. She may not have understood death, but she knew I was killing her.”
Watts had given permission for Cadle to use his letters in a book but seems to have changed his mind after it was published.

Cadle said: “Christopher was happy until he saw it all in print, and with the problems from his family it’s difficult for him. He always does what he is told. He was conditioned to it. His mother didn’t want the book because she was admitting what she’s been fighting against since the beginning – saying he couldn’t have killed his girls. So he was upset with the final product even after being aware of the content of the book all along.”
There are several books about Chris Watts in print and online, ranging from looking into his psychology to part true crime stories and one claiming it’s all fake news.
Despite her prolific correspondence, Watts’ story still leaves unanswered questions such as: Where is Nichol Kessler now, and did she really not know he was going to kill her family? And does Chris Watts finally feel remorse?
