Games World Of Puzzles October 2019

I have doubts about this topic, mainly because almost every topic is removed (with minor changes for the sake of answer-length/grid consistency) to of the title of “The Fumblerules” by William Safire. (Here is a direct link to the “On Language” column in question, from 1979). There are a few changes that are original and cute – especially the last repetition (don’t be REDUNDANCY) – but even POOFREAD CARFULY, which is the first in its wrong collection, does out of the sentences mentioned by Safire’s list. I’m trying hard to understand how plagiarism without plagiarism is *not* a form of plagiarism. When you take someone else’s ideas, their original work, and pass it off as your own… yes, that’s plagiarism. I’m just… trying to find this way. “It’s just a puzzle” is the only defense I can think of, and as you can imagine, I find that defense very effective. DON’T GENERALIZE is the only thing here that seems old, and (perhaps unsurprisingly) it’s also the weakest. I’ve seen campaigns that were obviously just “things from lists I found on the web” before, but I’ve never seen anything that seems to have worked on someone especially before. It’s annoying.

I don’t really want to comment on this puzzle. Only OVERGO, which is funny in its words is not. I rather lost patience with this until the end. I don’t mind the difficulty when they have me camping in the dictionary, but some of the unusual solutions this week are especially interesting. Again, I guess.
